Adopt A Healthy Lifestyle To Avoid Diabetes

By Shannon L Smith

Diabetes is something which is very common nowadays. Many people all over the world are inflicted with it. Insulin is the hormone which is produced by the pancreas to control the level of sugar in the blood. If the level of sugar in blood becomes too high, the person develops diabetes. If the pancreas starts producing excessive insulin or too little insulin, the levels of sugar in the blood are disturbed, thus resulting in diabetes. There are three types of diabetes; type 1 is found both in children and adults; type 2 is usually found in adults and rarely in teenagers as well. Gestational diabetes develops in pregnant women. Symptoms of diabetes may vary a little for all three types but usually they are the same.

Diabetes has become a matter of global concern because in the United States, only 20 million people suffer from this disease. But, there are ways to prevent diabetes, and even if you have developed it, you can control it through diet, exercise or medication. Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination, drastic weight loss, blurry vision or fatigue. One can either have one symptom or multiple symptoms at once. But, you should get yourself frequently tested for diabetes because at times, it continues to develop without showing any signs. Back when medical science was not as advanced, diabetes used to be fatal, but now, thanks to the awareness we have due to media and the advanced medication. You can now live a completely normal life even if you are suffering from diabetes.

Diabetes can be prevented by adopting a healthier lifestyle. Change your eating habits and start exercising to avoid this disease. Eat a balanced diet, so that once in a while you can treat yourself. This will not only reduce the risk of developing diabetes but will also keep your weight in check. Snacking between meals is a big 'No' health wise, because it overburdens the pancreas. Eat your meals at fixed timings and if you really want a snack, go for something which is healthy, like fruits or juices. Believe it or not; having breakfast daily also helps prevent diabetes, so if you're not in a habit of taking the most important meal of the day, you better start from today.

If you broil, stir fry or bake your foods, you will never have to witness the symptoms of diabetes hopefully. Add exercise to healthy eating, and you will feel even better. Choose outdoor activities over movies or dining out. Instead of spending free time in front of the family, go for a walk and take along either friends or family members.

The importance of physical activity cannot be ignored as far as a healthy life is concerned. Instead of using an elevator for one flight of steps, use the stairs. Avoiding diabetes is totally in your hands. If you follow the given tips, you can surely lead a healthy life. Make sure you take care of yourself and your loved ones as well.
